About Grip Unit
Our Story
At Grip Unit , we believe that cinematography is an art that should be accessible to everyone. That's why we started this business, to provide high-quality grip services. No shoot is too big or too small. We can do it.
Our story started in the 1980s when Barry joined Samuelson Film Services as a 35mm camera engineer.
After 10 years of servicing Arriflex, Panavision and Moviecam cameras , Barry moved into the Grips Department, primarily servicing Chapman, Panther, Egripment and Elemack dollies.
Barry soon found himself on the studio floor working and learning to become a Key Grip which resulted in
Grip Unit being established.
After Grip Unit was confirmed as a BBC recognised supplier, long term contracts were won on such shows as ‘Casualty‘ and ‘Holby City’. The latter Which ran for 23 years. This gave us a firm training ground to teach new talented grips.
Grip Unit was instrume
in estabolishing and encouraging grips towards the NVq award scheme for certified Grips.
Our Team
Our team is made up of experienced and passionate gripologists who are dedicated to capturing the essence of every moment. We strive to make every shoot a fun and enjoyable experience for our clients. To give the Director what he wants And

We are certified Grips to diploma NVQ 3A.
We can teach young grips the safe, correct way of doing things.
